I don't think it's really fair to call this an anti-Gimbutas book. The field has moved on since Gimbutas started to look at female imagery in prehistoric sites, and the authors acknowledge her while pointing out that archaeology has built on what was good in her theories, and discarded the unworkable bits. That's what any academic discipline has to do. Feminist archaeology still goes on, and this book proves it. The prehistoric is only part of this book. The rest of the book is packed with information on ancient goddesses, written by experts in the various ancient cultures covered in the book (Celtic, Greek, Egyptian and others)...
