A tale of endurance and human fortitude

Once I had started this book I could not put it down. I felt for the men who were stranded and gained a further insight into the chaotic way that private polar expeditions were organised. New insights are gained into Ernest Shackleton that show another side to this great man. Kelly Tyler Lewis is a masterful writer whose research has been thorough and painstaking with the result that no stone is left unturned.Buy it and read it because once started you won't want to put it down.

Just put the book down now... after two days of hard slog reading. only to be dissapointed that this book had finished. it took me threw the hardships of the brave men who boared the aurua and dissembarked at the coast of the ross sea. antarctica.
with very clear and revised diary entries from the men of the "mission",
for once i was reading the thoughts of men who didnt happen to be scott or shackleton. It portrais just how hard the expo,s actually were and how an unorganized voyage can end up in utter chaos.its and adventure story witch happens to be true a great read i garentee you wont be dissapointed

This is an remarkable tale that is well told. Kelly Tyler-Lewis has produced a scholarly and comprehensively researched history of the Ross Sea Party, but this is in no way a dry book - it's an amazing ripping yarn that brings to life the realities of Antarctic exploration in the early 20thC. Shackleton is a peripheral player to the main events of the book but for me it did bring some new insights (good and bad) into the man.
