I read this after reading another company's guidebook to Singapore and the difference in ease of use and the way the two were set out were noticable. It was complicated to use and didn't have enough on central Sydney for me.

Although I'm a big fan and wouldn't travel without one of these guides. I am disapointed to say that this one doesn't do as well as the others. As Sydney is so far away I guess the Time Out crew doesn't get down there too often! A lot of the clubs and bars have changed venues, names or themes. The Balloon tour was good but they double bill you and won't give back the money (6 months later - still awaiting a refund). The accomodation section works very well although not up to date with the pricing. We enjoyed the history section and wouldn't leave the hotel with out the neighbourhood guides and handy maps.
For the savvy independent traveller not on a tight budget

This guide scores heavily where Let's Go, Rough Guides and their ilk fail badly: food & drink. Time Out Sydney is very savvy indeed. I'm aware of no other guide book that allows the traveller to so quickly find Sydney's quality eateries - including the cool and hip, cheap and not-so-cheap. Sure, Let's Go & friends are for travellers on a budget - but not everybody that buys them is on a tight, tight budget. On this Time Out Sydney fills the gap - but should be considered complementary to a budget guide, not a replacement. We went to a number of recommended Sydney eateries crossing the cultural range that only one of the world's great cities can span and each recommendation was wholly accurate. Sure, take a Rough Guide to Sydney, but take this guide too and enjoy dieting when you get home.
