Immunology isn't a difficult subject. With the small exception of complements and interleukins, the organisation of the immune system is reasonably logical. Nevertheless, this book has found a way to completely confound and confuse. It begins with a basic introduction to the immune system and its various components and then makes a huge leap when it starts to go into more detail - i.e. it doesn't give enough background before discussing the more complex parts of the immune system. The chapters are organised in some sort of logical order but still have the reader jumping from one topic to another and then back again between chapters. It also takes the immunology completely out of its context. Instead of starting with the primary resonses to infection, it starts with antibodies - a completely different part of the immune response. The chapters themselves lack any sort of logical order and send the reader on a hunt through the book for further explinations when any good book would have built up to the topic in question including all these points in the chapter beforehand. Don't buy this book. Judging by the Amazon sales rankings there are plenty more immunology texts out there that would appear to be recommended by universitites and hence are probably more appropriate and better organised.

This book is an excellent book for immunology. The first chapter is an introduction to immunology, giving a summary of the innate and adaptive immune system, leaving the details for later chapters. The following chapters explain in detail about the T lymphocytes and the B lymphocytes. It brings the reader closer to understanding the complexity of the immune system step by step, instead of rushing into all the details at once. I loved this book because at the end of every topic, there is a summary to get the whole picture of the concept behind it and not get confuse with all the details that have been presented. The pictures following the text are also very useful in helping to understand the various concepts of immunology. I highly recommend it to anyone doing a course in immunology.
