OK sci-fi but not really a Star Trek novel

The book reads like an interesting concept for a sci-fi novel, but it feels more like an idea that has had the Star Trek element shoe-horned into the plot and as such it does not seem to fit easily. The crew members are by-standers for the most part of plot. Picard reads reports, Data acts as a relay device and Deanna as a telepathic relay device. Geordi, Worf and Riker are hardly mentioned at all. There is little suspense in the plot, the pacing is clumsy and the ending of the story leaves you feeling cheated out of what could have been.

Slow, cliche, Trek at its worst

I was hoping for a good read when the latest Next Generation book standalone came along, considering how well the DS9 stories have been recently, but was throughly disappointed and bored to tears by this drivel! It doesn't even feel like I'm reading a story in the Star Trek universe. Half way through I realised it was taking all my will power just to continue reading, and in boredom and frustration jumped to the end, so eager was I to get the story finished, and it ends just as predictably as I'd feared. Avoid!
