A strange and beautiful story

This novel is set at the turn of the century in a Highlands manse. It is the story of three sisters and narrated by the youngest, Lisbet. There are in fact two storms- one during which the eldest sister is discovered sheltering with the (Catholic) schoolmaster in an abandoned cottage, the second has terrible consequences for the middle sister who has transgressed sexual mores herself. I highly recommend this book.
