Informative and just right

Having read the other two reviews I hesitated ordering this book but as I was able to read a little by "looking inside" I had to say that I liked the style plus the index seemed to cover everything that I wanted to know, so I bought it...and I am very glad.
It won't be a disappointment for all those that have been in higher education, as it is constructed exactly like a course book. Each chapter is written in a no-nonsense down to earth style that would be expected from those that are comfortable in their own knowledge about the supernatural. Instead of schoolkid scaremongering about myths relating to the communication with the spirit world, it tells it exactly as it is. Just another natural branch of knowledge in our lives that just has not been tested by orthodox [earthly, reality only based] science.
I also have to disagree that it should be called "a history of spiritualism". Yes, it has three chapters giving very important background to those that do not know much about the subject, which in my opinion helps to underline the plausability of spiritualism.
This is a book that gives enough details to open your own channels [especially if you have been interested in the occult for a while but never bothered about getting into spiritualism or channeling before]without any of the sometimes ridiculous mumbo jumbo.
It is not too much in depth for each chapter, just enough to satisfy your curiosity and give you all the most important information without waffling on.
I personally won't need any other books as I am content that I can make it work just with the information given.
The question and answer pages are not a problem and might even be helpful for those that would like to do this "course" maybe together with others.
Worth its money, one of the best books on the subject and I know!

Channelled, Real or Imagined does not matter!!!

Yes that is what this author tells us at the end of the chapter on Channelling.
"A lot of what is presented as channelled material is probably no more than the vocalized unconsious mind of the channeller........will it work to advance my life?.......then it really doesn't matter what is the true source of the material you are hearing".
Like hell it doesn't! The whole point of channelling is connection with the spirit world, not advancing your life. Pick up a psychology self help book if that is what you are looking for. don't waste you money on this.

The History of Spiritualism!
Rating (2)

At last I thought a witch writing about psychic training, something that is going to help me with my curiosity and studies into the psychic world! I was disappointed! I think that the book should have been re-titled `A history of Spiritualism' but given Mr Buckland's `Wiccan' background I was surprised to see his detail and knowledge into the many names and characters that have bought Spiritualism from its roots to the modern day. I found it very annoying on how at the end of each chapter a lengthy question and answer appeared that took up a lot of room with spaces to write your answers, and then a lot more pages were used at the end giving the authors answers.
On a positive note though I have taken something from this book, the basic guide to meditation, protection and preparation are good, and my training is progressing, but for Wiccans I would recommend the Wildwitch: The Craft of the Natural Psychic by Poppy Palin
