First Part Good... Second Part - A waste of time!

The first section of this book is a good introduction to Gnosticism. I did understand the author and what they were saying - plus learnt some things. However once the author moves off the basics well it all goes down hill fast! Too many sections from other peoples work.

Borrow and read... But not worth buying.

The first half of this book is reasonably informative, but the second half, when the author discusses serpent lore, alchemy etc is irrelevant to Gnosticism - or if it isn't, its relevance is not explained. And when it's not being irrelevant, it's simply factually wrong (e.g. he makes a distinction between the Albigensians and the Cathars, claiming that they were two separate groups, which they absolutely were not).

If you want a short introduction to Gnosticism, go for Stuart Holroyd's The Elements of Gnosticism instead.
