I liked a lot this book, it's a good one and enjoyable even for people who likes OTHER SPORTS instead of football
i've readed in the comments things like 'my god first good football book', if you want a REALLY VERY GOOD BOOK you sould read Galeano's Football in sun and shadow

I know little about football, and probably care even less, but this book is just so brilliantly written it's a pleasure to read. Another reviewer has mentioned the author's tragic death, and it's therefore worth mentioning that all Adam's royalties from this book will go to help support his two young sons. Buy this book for yourself - you'll love it. Buy it as a present, pass on the above info and know you've done two good things at the same time.

I love Motty and if you do as well, you'll love this book. It's a great summertime read: entertaining, educational, sometimes funny. This book celebrates football with a wealth of short anecdotes, facts, stories, or statistics. It doesn't favor or slight any particular UK side, but celebrates them all. The player and manager quotes (Terry Venables: "Apart from their goals, Norway haven't scored.") at the end had me laughing out loud. Thus, I was saddened to read that Adam Ward, who colloborated with John Motson on this book, lost his life in a car wreck. He seems like the sort of guy you'd want to hang out with at the pub. He will be missed but certainly, this book stands tribute to his love of football.

I was given this as a present, being the most un-footie-like person in the world, but I gave it a go and, hey, it's a fantastic book!!! It's not just a bunch of dry statistics - goal averages and percentages; it's a colourful, well-rounded slant on everything to do with the beatiful game. There's a section on hideous haircuts, a Subbuteo factfile and enough commentary malapropisms to make David Coleman sound intelligent. Still don't understand the offside rule, though. *LOL*More books like this, please!
