A great introductory text Rating (4) Date: 2000-03-21 13 out of 13 customers found this reveiw helpful I'd recommend this text to anyone beginning their studies in Linguistics. It covers all the essentials, and more in lots of cases. However, the phonetic transcription used (and the assumption of an American accent rather than standard English) makes some examples unclear. All the same, definitely one to consider.
