I bought this book for my husband who reads anything and everything about horseracing.
Because the book was so expensive I assumed it must be very large and very detailed. However I was shocked when it arrived to find it was relatively small. To give you an idea it was the size of an everyday small hardbacked novel.
It also arrived in filthy condition - I can only assume it had been sitting on Amazon's shelves for a very long time before some mug (me) bought it. Usually Amazon's goods arrive in excellent condition so I knew something was wrong there.
Anyway I know nothing about racing so I thought I'd leave it for my Husband to decide - maybe it was rare or something - I didn't know.
After I'd told him that I was sending the book back because of the condition, I was able to get round to finding out if it really was worth what I'd paid for it. I'm not in the habit of giving clues out to the cost of presents but, under the circumstances I felt I had no choice.
Anyway. He examined it and was shocked at the price. He owns some of the more expensive books on this subject and showed me a beautiful leather bound backed book that you could see why it would cost more than usual. He also had a few very large detailed books that are now worth about the same as I paid for this one.
Having looked at this one in question he couldn't see why on earth it would cost so much. Much to my relief because I couldn't see the value in it either. As a general reference book it is fine he said, but not at that price!
I checked the other sellers on Amazon and even they have the book priced very highly. It's a total mystery to me. So if anyone out there can shed some light on why this small book is so expensive I would be very grateful otherwise it will bother me for a long time I fear. But for now, from what I can gather, this book seems extremely overpriced, and therefore I could not recommend it to anyone.
