Great start to learning kanji

i've been studying japanese for about a year or 2, and i have continuously tried to learn kanji- using flashcards and other books but i kept forgetting all the different readings of them, and only remembering their english meanings. This book has been really great, it is split into lessons (21 i think, in total) which each cover a number of kanji and everyday situations they would appear in, and then each chapter has a little test at the end. the format is really good and easy to break-down and understand, or if you're busy its easy to split each lesson up further. situations and definitions are explained in romaji, but pretty much everything else (e.g. kanji reading, vocab etc) is in hiragana and katakana, so if you don't know any written japanese yet its probably not a good idea to just jump in with this book. it also assumes some basic prior knowledge of japanese itself, so if you don't already know some japanese (like dates, going places, ordering food etc.) then its probably best to get a basic book first. but overall, if you already know basic japanese and the kana system, then this book is invaluable! i'm going to Tokyo in 2 weeks time, so i bought this to get a good basis on kanji i'll see around everyday; i hope all the kanji its help me learn will be useful in Japan!
