I wouldn't say this book is 'vital' to everyone studying A2 English Language. What I would say, however, is that it offers useful exam practice for students on a portion of the A2 Course. A good deal of the book is spent on the sociolinguistic ('pragmaic') aspects of language change.Beard clearly knows his stuff and he's also a rare thing-an A Level examiner who also manages to be an interesting and witty writer.
