An excellent insight into the "China Threat" debate

On the whole this is an important contribution to the debate on what many argue will be the key security challenge in the 21st Century. One of the biggest strengths of the book is the international focus of the book, both in terms of the countries covered but also in the nationality of the authors. While strong debate continues within the US and the Bush Administration in particular, it is valuable to get non-American voices on the issue. The book focuses on internal Chinese and regional (including the US and UK) perspectives of the China threat The strength of the analysis offered in most of these chapters is in regard to the examination of the internal differences within the country over the perception of the China threat and the domestic influences on the individual countries in regard to the development of their China policy. Those chapters that do not focus on the internal differences reflect more on the nature of the government in that country than anything else.
