Boro this has come up as short as your good selves @ St James over the years. Boring initially but some funny parts. Almost three stars. SoulCrew, Mig Crew and Zulu's all better by far.

No real depth to this "book", repetitive and been done many times before and a lot better.

As a Villa fan at the ZDS Northern Final he states there were 6000-7000 Boro fans at Villa Park. I remember the game because it p****d down and if I said you had a thousand there I'm being generous.

Don't write a sequel....

Absolute tripe. This is written in the worst tradition of repetitive hoolie books -" we ran them/won respect/ gamest firm in town" etc etc

Theone's attempt to defend his innate prejudices is also laughable and he comes out with the immortal "Im no racist but....." His tirade against Turks is straight out of the mouth of a orange faced Benidorm based Little Englander.

Try the books written by Mickey Francis and Andy Nicholls if this subject is your bag, far superior to this dross.

this book gives a good insight into what a lot of young lads lives were all about in and around Middlesbrough during the 70's and 80's.However i agree with some of the reviews when the author relates to the England games and Boro during the 90's it does get a bit boring. The book does bring back some great memories though if you did follow Boro during the 80's.I remember only to well that fa cup run when boro were eventualy beaten by Wolves. And like the author we also went to London to work.He also mentions the playoff game at Chelsea in 1988 which i will never forget because i was one of those fans who went on to the pitch at the final whistle. This book will appeal to anyone who followed football during the 80's especially the boro fans.

Having read this book (twice), having been present at some of the events described and other events confirmed by well known Boro 'firm' members, I can only say that Theone has done his best to be honest and even objective in his account. I know that the author has now been banned for his efforts and because he's a GENUINE fan this must really rankle with the guy. He is described in the book as an active member but as you read on it becomes apparent that he is more of a middle order foot soldier and not a top lad. Whereas most football hooligans are out and out thugs, John comes across as someone who seemed to get caught up in the violent side of it more through having to do it as against wanting to do it. I have seen and been involved with some of the earlier events he talks about and had forgotten all about them until reading this excellent book as it brought back just what the 'good old days' as he describes them was all about. One small contradiction, if any, is that he tends to lose track a little towards the end and the book seems to die off. A must read for anyone who's interested in life stories relating to football fans and their exploits.
