This book is nicely planned and is also enjoyable to read. It is written in a simple way, but it challenges many of the preconceived ideas belonging to western culture in every chapter. What is an economy? What makes up love and marriage? Questions like these seen cross culturally challenge our own ideas about what the 'right' way of doing things is. The book allows us to look beyond the borders of our own cultural system, and obtain new sight with which to look at the world. Are we really as 'advanced' as we like to think we are? In a shrinking world, it is imperative that we learn from all the people living in that world. This book is at an introductory level and is a perfect starting point in sociocultural anthropology, ideal for interested people who want to broaden their minds, and also ideal for first year undergraduates in the social sciences.
