Good introduction
Rating (4)
Date: 2008-11-15
This series called 'the basics' by Routledge covers a number of titles and I have purchased the following:
Archaeology, art history, anthropology, film studies, languages, Shakespeare, theatre studies, philosophy, poetry and politics.
There are several other titles in the series but these are either on subjects in which I am not interested or looked far too basic even for a refresher course.
I have so far found the time to read the ones on philosophy, poetry and politics.
The one on poetry challenged me the most out of the three that I have so far read as I found that it was making me think quite hard in some sections.
This one on politics was frankly too easy for me although I could see that it would have been a worthy introduction to someone who knew nothing about the subject. I think that it was marred a little by a slighty left wing bias and I have consequently knocked a point off my score for this reason.

Having roughly decided that I might like to study Politics at University, I realised that I really didn't know that much about it, and that it might be helpful to get an idea of whether or not the course would be right for me. Then I came across this book, and I decided to give it a go! Its great if you're new to Politics, whether you're wanting to study it or not, and its got loads of helpful definitions along the way. Thanks to this book, I've now applied to do Politics at University, and this is what helped to cement my decision!
