M.J.C. Vile's book, now in its fifth edition, has been an excellent introduction for British students of American politics for many years. The book is not overly complicated, and a brief reading can provide students with a wealth of information. However, on closer inspection this is an incredably detailed work that provides most students with all the information they are likely to need.
The book covers all aspects of American government, from the President and Congress to the State Governers and Legislatures. Commentary on the constitution is also provided. Essentially, this is a vital book for anyone interested in the workings of the American political system.
