Despite the massive growth in publishing about criminology hardly any books get close to the reality of crime in modern Britain. This is an exception. After reading this you really feel you have a grasp of the way crime is developing in British urban areas, it a a great ethnographic study. Along with the rich detail the changes in crime documented are set in the context of wider social changes making this a major contribution to criminological theory. The links with postmodernism may be a bit tenuous, but apart from that there is little to criticise. If you are interested in street crime in Britain read this book.
