I loved this book and even the fact that I kind of guessed what was going to happen and who did it, did not ruin my enjoyment. Really liked the characters and was satisfied with the ending.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable book. The setting is lovely and the story thrilling with lots of twists. I did guess the ending but not fully so it was still a surprise. A very easy read but once you start, you'll not be able to stop.

While I wouldn't say this was brilliant it certainly entertained and held my interest. Quite a clever story in that it keeps you guessing to the last chapter. I didn't give it 5 stars as although the characters were pretty good I didn't connect with them. All in all not a bad read but not a particularly memorable one either.

I had never heard of this book or the authour before but came across the title on somebody's Listmania here on Amazon and thought it sounded like a good read. I wasn't wrong!
I read this book in just over a day, staying up into the night as I couldn't tear myself away from it. It's one of those books where you promise yourself that this will be the last chapter, and then you say just one more....and so on!
This is the story of a young girl who is found naked and frozen to death in one of the worst blizzards the town on Small Plains has ever known. She can't be identified and so she is buried in an unmarked grave in the towns cemetary. Over the years she becomes known as the Virgin of Small Plains and legend has it that she can cure the sick and so people travel from all over to visit her grave. However, on the night of the blizzard, 18 year old Mitch Newquist vanishes without a word to anyone, leaving a Abby his devastated girlfriend and all his friends. After 17 years Mitch arrives back in Small Plains and it seems that not everyone wants him back. Why do so many people in Small Plains want him gone again and what are they hiding about that night in the snow storm 17 years ago?
This is a fantastic page-turner and I highly recommend. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Oh I loved this book. I really just bought it on a whim, after reading slightly about it here in Amazon. And well it didnt prove to be a bad buy! The story is brilliantly mysterious, with captivating description of Kensas and it's beauty with tornados and all that. Maybe becuase I used to live on the plains in Nebraska, did this book hit my heart even more. I just recognized all the characters, all the scenery described... the small town, the fields... Just felt familiar. Nancy Pickard writes her story with such wonderful elegance you can't possibly be bored even for a second! And has you thirsty for the truth 'till the end.
The story is spun around a murder that took place in Small Plains 17 years ago, and so the chapters has you bouncing back and forth 17 years, but not at all in a confusing way. The night the sheriff and his two sons found a dead, naked,, female corpse in their pastures is the night life changed for three very important town familes. Familes that had been life long friends. The sheriff, the doctor and the judge, and their kids, all have something to hide, all have questions they want answered. But none as many as Abby,, who is the daughter of the towns Doctor, and who lost her true love that night of the murder. When her high school sweetheart dissapeard without a word to her, from her bed, and was never seen again. Why did he leave? And so when he shows up again after 17 years, the questions and secrets are comming out of the dark. More shocking and ugly than anyone would have liked to think.
A GREAT read.,.. really!!!
