First impressions - considerable improvement on 6th edition

At the start of an oncology career, a good strategy for success is to pin your colours to one big textbook, and aim to read it from cover to cover. DeVita 6ed was a disappointment, with too many instances of 'stream of consciousness' text, lacking adherence to the smart structural frameworks which are an expert's best gift. 7ed has undergone significant rewrites. It is leaner, more logical, and the accompanying CDROM is miles more useful than the old one. Thoroughly recommended.

The definitive book on cancer and its management

If you only want to own one post-graduate book about oncology this is it. This book really does cover everything. Each chapter is a comprehensive review of the author's area with hundreds of references to original papers giving the text unquestioned authority. There are also chapters giving an introduction to molecular medicine which I found very useful. I am a practising oncologist and regularly turn to this book for advice. The price seems steep but it is worth ten of most other post-graduate texts.
