a refreshing approach to the heat of the resus room

This book deals equably with the scope of problems encountered by SHOs in the resus room - from trauma surveys to mechanical ventilation. The chapters are presented in an ABC approach and presentations rather than specific diseases. This is a useful way of learning about emergencies in a practical way. As a medical SHO there are times when ITU aren't available and this book gives useful information on ventilation which at the very least helps you understand when to call ITU.
However, the books greatest strenght is alsi its greatest weakness - the book is a bit of everything and contains nowhere near enough in depth information on common and less common medical problems. In reality the oxford handbook of acute medicine remains the only book I carry with me. It remains unsurpassed and to some extent this book is obselete. Still if you have the money it makes an interesting read.
