A good addition to the historical genre.

As a fan of Cornwall & O'Brien this was a great and refreshing addition to the genre. My only gripe is that the novels don't follow any real time line which means that a)there seem to be large gaps between novles - so beware which one you read first and b) there aren't enough of them! The insight in C18th London is vivid and the characterisation is good. I'd dearly love to see more of volumes, they're great fun and you feel a genuine empathy with Jack Absolute. Ideal material for a film script one day!

Very entertaining

This series become increasingly promising with each Absolute book. The series is arranged in a particularly odd way with the first book actually occuring after this one and the one prior to this. It's well written. Absolute has his obligatory unusual traits (he's been training with the red indians), and the usual ones: he's a little bit of a naughty boy but overall he fights for honour etc.
The plot for this one is good and overall it was a very entertaining read if not on the same par as Sharpe, Flashman or Killigrew.
