This book helped me get a 2:1!

I researched the topic of Assisted Suicide for my GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) project. I found Kennedy and Grubb's book to be of valuable assistance in my research. Pretty much most of the answers to the questions I had while researching this project were in this book! This book is packed with so much information that the text had to be condensed into very small print. Its still readable of course! Not only do the authors make reference to English case law, but during my research I also found references to North American case law as well. This shows the breadth of knowledge available in this book. I am glad I bought this book, even though its higher price can initially be off putting to first time legal researchers.

Let's start by putting this in perspective; I am a law student and I do research for a barrister's Chambers. As a result, I am reviewing this book both from a student's and practitioner's perspective. It is superb. The coverage is excellent and comprehensive. Extracts from hundreds, if not thousands, of journal articles and cases (saves hours in the library) together with sufficient discussion to provide that 'critical law' element. It is well worth the £50 as it is much more than twice the book that many £30 ones are. Read a chapter in this and if, like me, you check other books too, they become merely repetition and too basic. Properly presented with loads of analysis, this has to be the book for a 1st (I hope!). The coverage is well indexed, divided into sensible chapters and approaches each chapter logically, starting with the basics backed with discussion of each point, together with the limitations of each theory and identifying both judicial and academic standpoints.I cannot think of any book I would recommend more wholeheartedly.

No matter if you are a student who is intent on pursuing a career within medical law, or just a student studying it, this book is essential reading. It is concise, it may sometimes be too much to read (such as when discussing the NHS), but for the rest it has a perfect explanation, and the materials from precedent that it uses is beyond reproach. If you want a 1st, get this book.

Expensive for a text book but worth it. This contains the most up to date info of everything you need to know. Although a little confusing to negotiate at times the content of the book can not be faulted.
