Excellent Short Story Collection

Marshall Moore deserves clear and full recognition for this first book of stories. His style is clear, pared down, highly literate whilst also hip enough to be chatty, and he shows a great range from good humoured fantasy (Sex and Dragons) to darkest horror (Hurricane Season) to witty social comedy (Everybody Loves the Musee d'Orsay; City of Warm Red Lights). The writer appears to have worked hard at achieving a concision and precision that sets the imagination and love of language buzzing in the reader. I keep recommending this book to everyone I know who is interested in reading or writing short stories. The writer appears to be disenchanted with his home country, the USA and has taken up residence in the far East, a perch that gives him an interesting perspective on modern gay life and feelings, and plenty of subject matter. His novel The Concrete Sky is equally exciting to read.
