For heaven's sake, if you are interested in the subject of Atlantis I sincerely recommend you put your card back in your wallet. This book is written by someone who is barely literate, absurdly annoying and utterly ignorant of her chosen field. There are hundreds of books on this subject and so many people flock to it because it is virtually impossible to say something which anyone can contradict with any evidence. If you want a very sound and plausible read about this subject by an amateur enthusiast you could do a lot worse than read Frank Joseph's The Destruction of Atlantis. Despite having no formal qualifications other than enthusiasm, he pulls together the various arguments and collates a highly respectable and credible vision of Atlantis.

If you have ever been captivated in any way by the myth of"the lost continent of Atlantis," here is your chance to satisfy your curiosity. Indeed, after reading this book, you will come to realize what most scholars of classical antiquity take as second nature: it is a very gray area between where ancient mythology ends and ancient history begins. Reading this book brings the "myth" of Atlantis ever so much closer to us out of the mythology of the far past up into the ancient history of the near past. It is the wonderful work and lifelong dedication of Shirley Andrews that has done this for us. This book is, truly, "a labor of love."As some of you read this book, you may begin by thinking to yourself, "Well, this is going to be a fun read, but I seriously doubt that I am going to end up believing in the reality of any lost continent of Atlantis!" When you are through reading the book (and you WILL finish reading the whole thing!), you will find yourself wanting to not only read more about Atlantis, but wanting to go on any number of excursions to many of the places where Ms. Andrews herself has gone to personally do firsthand, primary research for this book. I, myself, am tempted to take a trip to the Canary Islands to see for myself all of the evidence that the author has generously shared with us all. ... At one time in my life, I, too, merely thought of Atlantis as that great song by Donovan that used to make the hairs stand up all over my body every time I heard it come on the radio. After reading this book, the myth of Atlantis has become a reality for me. See if it does the same for you.

Good resource on the legend of Atlantis
Rating (5)
Date: 1999-07-25
The author did an excellent job going through all the material that is out there on this legendary land. For those who might want more action and could take some fiction on the same subject, check out Greg Donegan's book ATLANTIS which is the first in a series revolving around the legends involved.

Atlantis Insights...The author has done an immense amount of digging, and sifted through vast materials for the best information available - while sharing her own valued perspective. If one could only read one book on Atlantis, I would recommend Atlantis Insights... Very comprehensive, as well as enjoyable reading!

As a newcomer to the subject of Atlantis, I found Ms. Andrews' book to be a wonderful resource. The book was easy to read and contained information on a range of interesting topics from architecture to healing to geography. It was informative and well documented without getting too technical. The rich biography and notes at the end provided a helpful roadmap for those who wish to investigate further.
