This is the most comprehensive and well-written book that I have found about the history of Roman law in English. It traces the history and evolution of Roman law in its political and cultural context, with emphasis on the development of legislation, the contribution of the Roman judicial magistrates and jurists, the evolution of civil and criminal legal procedure and the codification of law. Highly recommended for students and scholars interested in legal history.
A Quality Work

In this carefully researched and well structured book, Mousourakis traces the history of Roman law, in its social and political context, from early antiquity to the beginning of the Middle Ages. Written with lucidity and a remarkable width of knowledge, the book is essential reading for all students of history and law. A quality book that will become a classic in its field.
A classic book.

This is a classic work for those interested in the history of Roman law - the foundation of many legal systems around the world. Striking a perfect balance between readability and scholarly attention to detail, the book offers a thorough coverage of Roman legal history from the beginnings of Roman history (8th century BC) to the end of Greco-Roman antiquity (ca. 600 AD). Probably one of the best books of its kind ever written and a must for any law and history library.
