Wow, it was almost like living through 1978 as I read this book! I was only 5 in 1978 so I have no memories of Argentina '78. The first Scotland World Cup for me was Spain '82. Reading this book now makes me feel like I was there!
Essentially this book covers the Ally MacLeod Scotland years and the book covers Scotland before and after the world cup in addition to the actual competition. There are interviews with players, coaching staff, SFA members, Ally's wife etc. It is a very well researched book.
You come out of the book feeling like you were there. You have a greater understanding of the Scotland of today, our attitude towards football, the tartan army and ultimately our recent demise as a football nation.
For anyone interested in the history of the national team I cannot recommend this book enough. 10/10.
