Dashed Expectations

From amongst a number of books on Hayek, I purchased this, most expensive one. However, I was deeply disappointed when I started reading it. The author covers a number of areas of Hayek's work away from economics, having taken the view that the only way to understand Hayek's economics is to understand some of his other work. The exposition is hard to follow. You really need to sit and read, and re-read chapters in order to understand what the author is saying. There is also very little criticism of Hayek's work, so that for someone who is not an economics expert, a lot of what is written needs to be taken as authority. If you want an easier read, and something that is balanced you might want to pick up The Cambridge Companion to Hayek, a cheaper book, which is also easier to read and gives a more balanced view. However, it also covers a lot of stuff other than the economics.
