Whether you're into the anti-social music discussed in this book - punk, metal and hip-hop - this book is a great document of our times. Refreshingly the author holds back from the usual journalistic intervention and allows the artists to speak at great length uninterrupted. Some come across better than others, but perhaps that's the point. It is in the chapter introductions and the wealth of well researched footnotes that Myers places these marginalised characters into their social, cultural and - most poignantly - political contexts. As he points out, anyone who is hated by the authorities yet has the trust and adoration of millions of the young generation throughout the world is probably worth listening to. A satisfying break from the stuffy dinosaur journalism of old, this one

Like the artists he writes about and interviews, Ben Myers has a voice that pleads to be heard - riddled with pain, poetry and rage. Read this book. It might not change your life but it will make you want to do something about it yourself.
