entertaining, but nothing special.

i picked up this book at a recent convention, mainly because of shane granger's artwork, which reminded me a lot of katsuhiro otomo's stuff.
the art has its ups and downs, but its pretty good considering this is his first published work after the rising stars of manga competition- he was probably working ridiculous deadlines and such, so forcing pages of this quality out of yourself would be pretty demanding. i did get the feeling that the artist may have referenced certain panels directly from akira- some of the expressions look identical, not to mention the style of the inks and screentone- these are pretty much exactly the same as in otomo's akira books.
the story is ok, comparable with starship troopers on some levels (without the humour of course), but it is a bit generic, and you pretty much know whats coming next.
overall, a good book. good, not great.
