I *love* Pita Ten!

If you like the cute, fantasy side of animé then this is for you! It's aimed at ages 13+ but to be honest at 22 I still love it :D
The basic plot throughout the 8 books focusses on a trainee angel and a trainee demon who are here on Earth trying to learn how to be the best at their respective jobs. Mixed in along the way a lonely boy called Kotarou gets taken under their wing as they try to help him out whenever they can. Not always helping in the right way, Misha (our angel) is a bit of a scatter brain and is very clumsy. Unlike Shia (our demon) who struggles in her demon studies due to her kind and gentle heart.
Kotarou and his friends welcome Misha and Shia into their lives and the books follow the adventures, misunderstandings and funny scenarios of their studies here on Earth.
This is probably one of *the* cutest animé series I have ever read - to get the most out of the series watch the episodes online.

Pita-Ten is a 8-volumes-long series by Koge Donbo, the creator of Digi-Charat. But don't expect tiny girls from outer space in this story.
Pita-Ten tells the tale of a young boy called Kotarou, who has to lead a rather independent life following the death of his mother and with his father often away at work. One day, however, an incredibly energetic and cheerful (more like hyperactive) girl called Misha moves in next door and claims to be an angel. The story mainly follows the relationship between Kotarou and Misha, as the "angel" tries to help her friend out in every way she can, but often makes the situation worse.
As you can probably work out by the art style, Pita-Ten is basically supposed to be an ultra-cute series. The pink-haired Misha often ends her sentences with "-su" and fills silences with a "teeheehee". In the English translation by Tokyopop, the way Misha talks can get rather irritating, as it gets a bit like strange a mix between Texan dialect and baby talk. I'll admit that the first time I picked up this series, I gave up reading by the first volume just because I couldn't stand the way Misha talked. But I'm glad I gave it another chance.
If you have seen the anime version of this (which is unlicensed at the time of writing), I can assure you that the manga series is darker and deeper. The first few volumes just show the characters going on with their ordinary lives, which holds a few funny moment. But if you're thinking it's a bit childish - stick with it. In the later half of the series, it gets surprisingly dark (for a series like this, don't expect anything like Hellsing here) as Kotarou finds out about who Misha really is. Before I knew it, I just kept reading and reading as more things were revealed. That was what made the series just slide up to 5 stars for me.
If you're interested in getting this series, I recommend getting the box-set with the first four volumes. The box itself is just made of thin cardboard, not as good as some of the other Tokyopop boxes, but it works out cheaper anyway. At just 8 volumes long, it's a nice (and more affordable) addition to a manga collection.

If you're already familiar with the work of Koge Donbo or you're a fan of Di Gi Charat, I'm quite certain that you'll enjoy Pita-Ten.It follows the exploits of crazy but well-meaning angel Misha who moves in next door to our protagonist Kotarou. Although Kotarou is utterly suspicious of Misha's antics by the end of the book you get the feeling that some form of friendship is developing...or something... ^^; In the typical style of Koge Donbo, this manga is utterly adorable and humourously eccentric. However my only gripe with it is that it can be somewhat confusing and that the character depth and development is like a stream-slow and shallow. On the other hand, don't let this deter you. Pita-Ten is wonderfully amusing and endearing if you're after a light read!

Pita Ten; boy meets (hyperactive, crazy, angelic) girl!

Pita Ten is the sweet and funny (if slightly wierd ^__^) story of a boy named Kotarou Higuchi who lives all alone. His life is relatively normal, and quite lonely...until a very cute and strange girl named Misha moves into the apartment next to his. Before poor Kotarou knows what is happening, Misha is following him everywhere, and telling him she's his angel-and she's determined to make him happy! Hoever, despite her best efforts, Misha is clueless about life on earth, and as a result often ends up making Kotarou more miserable. I really enjoyed Pita Ten 1, however I think it takes a little getting used to before you can truly appreciate how wonderful it is. For example, the artwork is cute, but I found it hard adjusting to the constant "chibi" style used in almost every frame. Also, because of the mad style of humour (which will have you laughing out loud!), it can be easy to miss the really tender moments between Misha and Kotarou that make this lovely little series special. Kotarou is a great male lead- he's cute, intelligent, and VERY suspicous of Misha *laughs*. Misha is an even better female lead-she's beautiful, funny and her syle of speech is very catchy! Oh, and the look on her face when her plans for Kotarou go wrong is just heart-breaking! She really does just want to make him happy...bless! ^^ Suspense builds for volume 2 as the creepy girl Shia moves in with Misha...Kotarou doesn't like this one bit. A very lighthearted series with the most adorable romantic undertones. Well worth a look if you're fond of something like Chobits-they both have the same style of adorable innocence when it comes to romance. Yay Pita Ten!

It's been waiting for Pita-Ten to be available translated in the UK for a while now, and I was not disappointed!Kotarou is a lonely boy who has to live on his own most of the time as his dad is almost always away on business. He decides to make something good out of being alone and so spends most of his time studying. It's going well until a new neighbour moves in next door! Misha looks totally crazy and seems to stalk Kotarou wherever he goes! Misha then claims to him that she's an angel and wants to make sure Kotarou stays happy. Should Kotarou trust this disorganised, crazy girl that can't even speak Japanese well? The reason I only gave this manga 4 stars is that it can be pretty confusing at times. But overall, it really is a great manga! Well recommended!
