A really neat idea, with lots of atmospheric description. I thought Paris was a well-rounded character, who developed throughout the book. It made me want to visit the Himalayas!

The story revolves around three young people from utterly different backgrounds. Only two of them are human.Their lives change forever when they are thrown together and each learns something about themselves and about the others. The reader does too, and it's like remembering something you'd forgotten. Philip Gross packs his prose with powerful description of place and feeling and tells a story that lets you into the minds and landscape you've never seen before in just over 200 pages. The story isn't about war, or saving the planet or what makes us human but it deftly sheds light on just such things without seeming to have set out to do so. A scene can be sketched out in a few lines, and fire up a picture in the mind as vivid as a dream - before you've even realised it. It's a completely gripping tale. I would look up from reading, surprised by the familiar things around me. Very imaginative, very real, very different.
