A Fantastic Fantasy Adventure
Rating (5)
Date: 2008-03-21

I love this book. The whole series is defitnitley worth reading. Although the first book is the longest, it takes a while to get into and took me quite a while to read (And I am a speed-reader), but that doesn't make it any less brilliant. It is full of imagination and suprise. The mythical creatures are amazing, the description is great, there is nothing wrong with this book. Even the baddie, Kullervo, is a one of a kind villain, a shape shifter. He is very hateable. Connie is a good character, shy and insecure, worried people will think she is weird at eleven, when the series begins. Happy with herself, but still upset by the burden of her gift in The Chimera's Curse, at fourteen. The end of the series. The Companions Quartet should be at the top of every pre-teens reading list (along with all other Julia Golding books of course!). Read This!

This book is amazing and very unique in the fact that it is based now rather than in the past like most fanstasy books. The wonderful description on all of the mythical creatures (dragons, sirens, selkies, pegasi, rock dwarfs) really makes it seem as if they could all really exist. And there's 4 more! :)

'Secret of the Sirens'by Julia Golding really gripped me from the moment I openened it. It is the first of the 'Companions Quartet' sries, with such a new and inventive styleso different to many fantasy adventure novels on he shelves today.
The imaginative plot sparks interest immediately, whilst not ever giving away too much in one go.
Sent to live with her eccentric but kindly aunt after causing trouble at home, Connie just can't help the fact that animals seem to follow her everywhere she goes. When she is spotted having fun with the fauna of the seaside, her aunt invites her to join the Society for the Protection of Mythical Creatures. Connie finds out that she has special powers and could help protect the habitat of the sirens, which pollution is slowly destroying.
However, unexpected implications lead to a disastrous twist in which Connie meets the evil Kullervo and the Kraken enters the scene...
This is Julia Golding's first novel for children and fom the acclaim she has recieved so far, she needs to write more and more!
If you're into fantasy adventure stories with a twiist, you will not be able to put down 'Secret of the Sirens'!

As soon as I set eyes on this book's cover, I knew that it would be absoulutely amazing.
Was I right?
YES!
When Connie goes to stay at her strange Auntie's house, she notices unusual things. She soon discovers that some of the residents are able to talk to a mythical creature (one each) and Connie makes friends with Col, who talks to pegasi. Connie discovers that she is very special, and her gift is very rare, she has to fight against Kullero, an evil force, determined to wipe out humans. With a little help from the mythical creatures and her friends, will Connie be able to succed?

A great book.

I knew from the moment I opened "the secret of the sirens" that it was going to be on of those books that really grips you. And I was right, It was wonderful.
The storyline of the book begins with the main character, Connie, playing with and talking to the birds, and ofcourse this is a rather peculiar beginning, I know, but it still gripping.
As the story goes on the plot deepens into a twist of magic and mystery.
I rated this book 5/5 ecause the story is so brilliant you simply have to read it. i would strongly advise this book so just buy it and read it!!!!!!!!
