The full, unabridged text of Dickens's timeless Christmas story "A Christmas Carol" is here, accompanied by evocative colour illustrations by William Geldart. But that is not all! Like all the books in "The Whole Story" series, "A Christmas Carol" also features a great deal of supplementary information in the form of extended captions placed in the margins. These include photographs of objects referred to in the story, a rich collection of contemporary illustrations (prints, maps, paintings, etc.)together with relevant details about Dickens's own life. This approach places the story most effectively - and entertainingly - in the context of 1840s Britain. You can either read the captions as you go along or, if you prefer, read the story and come back to the extras later. Although aimed primarily at children, adults will find much to enjoy (and learn) in this version of "A Christmas Carol".
