This book was impossible to put down. It's about a teenage girl called Suzanne who used to be bullied when she was younger, then met the person who bullied her while she was working in a hair salon. Karenna (the bully)was working with her. Then the story is about how she has to forget about Karenna and move on. The story contains more throughout. I wrote a review about this book for school. The library couldn't resist it and ordered their own copy. I would recommend this book to people between 11 and 15.

With a lot of teenage fiction, especially that told in the first person, I'm left wondering, "Ok, exactly how long has it been since the writer was a teenager?" But apart from a few clichés, this book didn't really give that impression at all. It seemed an honest account of being the brainy, bullied one (and I know what it's like). Furthermore, it captured the northern mentality well, and despite the seriousness of the issues it dealt with, it was quite humorous. I'd rather have read less about toilet trouble, but that's my only real complaint.

'Getting rid of Karenna' tells the story of sixteen year old Suzanne, who begins working at a hair salon as a saturday job. Only to discover Karenna, a girl who previously bullied her, also works there. The bullying begins again, but this time Suzanne has to overcome her imense fear of Karenna by getting rid of her once and for all. This book was excellent, and I could relate to it a great deal. I would recommend it to any young teenager. Particularly those who have experiences of bullying. This is one of the best books Helana Pielichaty has written. Anyone who enjoyed this book I would also recommend 'Simone's Diary' by Helana Pielichaty and 'Jade's story' by Helana Pielichaty.
